Lotus: An Admiration of the East

This series of photography demonstrates that besides the paintbrush, the camera is another tool that can be used to show the blending of Chinese heart and western medium.

Lotus flower has a great symbolic meaning in the East. It is a symbol of purity and perfection because lotus flowers grow out of muddy ponds but are not defiled. It is also regarded as a sacred flower in both Buddhism and Taoism.

For the exhibit, Joseph Lo inscribed a Chinese poem on each photo of this series, either from the classics or of his own creation, in elegant Chinese calligraphy. Each poem is in concordance with the photographic image, thus enhancing the depth of the poetic image.
