| Objective | | Prepare design proposal respecting the dike left from the 1950 flood. To study housing in terms of exterior and interior spatial relationship: public space, transitional space from public to private and private space. |
| Concept | | A dike itself is a piece of raised earth that protects people from floods. With the completion of a floodway around the city, the risk of floods in the city diminished and the function of the dike as protection has gone. It is now a physical barrier that disconnects areas on both sides of the dike. The concept of this design is to transform the dike through housing to lessen the harshness of the bare dike and to create a dialogue of built environment and nature. |
| Strategy | | Design 4 floor plans that bring outdoor nature into the house, use vegetation to block street traffic, and create outdoor semi-public space to connect with the indoor semi-public space. Houses will be built partly within the dike to ease the overpowering effect of the man-made structure. |
