H.S. Paul Highschool Playground

Site Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Objective To design play yard for a junior high school with grades 1 to 9.
Concept School Playground as environmental art.

Quotes from Henry Moor:

"You can't measure a space without measuring from one point to another point. The Heavens have space that we can understand because there are points - the stars and the sun - that are different distance away from each other."

The child as well as the designer is seen as "creator" and "artist". A design that expresses and explores the full creativity and imagination of a child, i.e., a provocative solution, a landscape of Fantasy, a design of dream, is therefore sought.

Strategy
  1. Through understanding the layout of classrooms in relation to each exit to the outdoor playground, subdivide the space adjacent to the school into three different areas and set up play structures that are suitable to each age group, namely: grades 1 to 3, grades 4 to 6, and grades 7 to 9.

  2. Create points of vista, an amphitheater and street-like playground in correspondence with neighboring streets.
